JAIPUR WORKSHOP

Mr. Piyush Khaitan, FRPSL, FPCI, Chairman of the Air Mail Society India Foundation (AMSI), delivered a special talk on “Collecting Indian Airmails.” on 26 November 2025 at the Philatelic Bureau, Jaipur, jointly hosted by India Post, Jaipur City, and the Philatelic Society of Rajasthan (PSR).
His presentation offered a comprehensive journey through the evolution of Indian Airmails, beginning with the world’s first postally recognised aerial mail in 1911 and tracing its growth through early experimental flights, foreign airmail services operated by Imperial Airways, KLM, and Air Orient, as well as the development of India’s internal airmail routes pioneered by JRD Tata and various Indian carriers. He highlighted the impact of World War II on airmail routes, censorship, and postal arrangements, followed by the rise of post-war Indian civil aviation, including landmark developments such as the launch of Air-India International in 1948, the introduction of Night Air Mail services, and the nationalisation of air transportt in 1953. The session also covered exhibiting guidelines for philatelists and showcased the diverse branches of aerophilately—such as first flights, crash covers, rocket and space mail,
Zeppelin mail, rates and routes, and auxiliary markings—encouraging collectors to explore the
depth and richness of this specialised field.
A total of 30 individuals attended the seminar, including members of the Philatelic Society of Rajasthan and officials from the Department of Posts. Notable attendees included: Mr. Mohan Singh Meena, IPoS, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices (Jaipur City); Mr. Yogesh Bhatnagar, President, PSR; Mr. Rajesh Paharia, General Secretary, PSR (AMSI Member); Mr. M.L.
